Dynamical bath control with localized impurities in a fermionic quantum gas

This project will focus on the mutual influence of externally controlled, localized impurities onto a bath of ultracold, degenerate and interacting Fermi atoms. This scenario represents a conceptually simple setting to explore system-bath interaction from two perspectives: The influence of the bath onto the system, and the back-action of the system onto the bath. Combining theory and experiment, the project will thus address the central questions of how bath properties influence a quantum system, and which information can be retrieved from the bath. Vice versa, it will aim on reservoir mediated interactions for generation of entanglement between two impurities, in order to transfer this to larger quantum systems.
